Data Privacy at TRACE: A statement from the co-Founders

“As Transgender & Trans-Ally co-founders of TRACE, we promise to protect your private data and never turn it over to anyone who may use it against you.“

We would never sell or disclose your personal data to anyone.

With anti-trans legislation and bills passing all over the USA, we have received concerns about personal data. These concerns are valid, especially after the overturn of Roe v Wade. We understand the fear, anxiety and trauma that has occurred for many within our community and we are dedicated to doing our part.

As Transgender & Trans-Ally co-founders of TRACE, we promise to protect your private data and never turn it over to anyone who may use it against you. Your personal data regarding transition activity or trans related care is kept private and safe. We don’t sell it, we don’t share it for anyone else’s use, we won’t disclose it.

We are here to serve our community. We created this space to build a support system, and document our beautiful transitions. We strive to provide a place better than what we currently have to share and connect as Trans & Nonbinary people.

We have connections to individual Trans Lawyers and attorneys who will continue to keep us updated and informed on legal changes. We have also built a strong connection to another app, Clue, as a mentor for knowledge and information on how to stay protected during these times.

In addition, here are some tips from our friends at Clue’s Information Security Architect on the things only you can do to protect your data:

  • Stop anyone else from seeing what is in your private apps if they gain access to your phone. You can do this by activating your PIN, TouchID, or FaceID.

  • Stop spyware, which can be a particular problem on Android. The Android Ad ID allows information to be extracted from your Android device, like which apps you have downloaded. It is usually turned on by default. If you want to make sure your Android Ad ID is turned off, reset or disable it in your device settings. Only download apps you can trust. Never give apps system-wide permissions to view other apps installed on your phone.

  • Enable remote data erasure so you can delete data from your phone in case it is lost or stolen. You can activate this with the “Find My iPhone” feature on iOS or with the “Find My Device” feature on Android.
